This video is for anyone who served aboard a guided missile cruiser in the 1960s & 1970s. It explores in great detail role of the Guided Missile Cruisers and the sailors who were aboard them. Includes excellent footage both above and below deck. Part I (narrated, approx. 40 min.) documents the cold war history of USS Little Rock CLG-4. It includes candid interviews with former crewmen and officers recounting their experiences aboard this guided missile cruiser, which was a state-of-art ship in the 1960s. Video contains excellent film footage of Little Rock, as well as, numerous photos of the ship. Part II (music soundtrack, approx. 10 min.) documents gunfire support provided by USS Providence during the Vietnam War. Part III (narrated, approx. 30 min.) documents USS Long Beach from the perspective of a sailor assigned to the ship as a nuclear propulsion plant operator. The video includes the training the sailor receives in various Navy schools before reporting to USS Long Beach, as well as excellent scenes of day-to-day life aboard Long Beach and the ship's participation in exercises. Part IV (music soundtrack, approx. 1 min.) contains aerial views of USS Albany (CG-10) underway as part of Exercise Teamwork Part V (narrated, approx. 30 min.) focuses on the role of the chiefs aboard USS California (CGN-36), a nuclear powered guided missile cruiser. In the video, California sails from Norfolk, Virginia to the Caribbean with 28 officers and 572 enlisted men. The video explores the numerous roles the chief petty officers play in running the ship. CPOs serving in the ratings of quartermaster, sonar technician, operations specialist, etc. are all high- lighted.
